What Does "NCDEU" Mean?
Question:
What does "NCDEU" mean, and what is the complete name of the meeting?
Answer:
Actually, NCDEU (pronounced N-C-DEW) is the name of the meeting. It started 50 yrs ago as an NIMH (National Institute of Mental Health) meeting, and "NCDEU" stood for the part of NIMH that sponsored the meeting (the "New Clinical Drug Evaluation Unit"). About 2 years ago, after ASCP began to co-sponsor the meeting with NIMH, it was decided to continue to use the initials as the name of the meeting, but not use the actual name of the defunct NIMH office. NCDEU is a meeting that has traditionally brought together researchers, clinicians, and academics to present, hear about and discuss new findings in psychopharmacology. Increasingly, ASCP has tried to enhance the clinical side of that equation. ASCP members receive a significant discount on the registration fee.
